Youth MP Elections: Ghana Votes Across Constituencies As Results Awaited
Ghana’s youth leadership space has come into focus as young people across the country take part in the Youth Model Parliament (YMP) constituency elections, with attention now shifting from voting to the counting and declaration of results.
The elections are aimed at selecting young representatives who will serve as Youth Members of Parliament, giving participants an opportunity to experience parliamentary leadership, debate public policy and represent constituencies in a simulated parliamentary environment.
The Youth Model Parliament, organised under the Youth Empowerment Consortium (YEC), describes itself as a realistic simulation of Ghana’s Parliament where young leaders act as MPs, debate motions, draft policies and engage with national issues. The programme is designed primarily as a leadership-development and governance-training initiative.
Yapei-Kusawgu attracts attention
In the Savannah Region, Yapei-Kusawgu is among the constituencies being closely watched as candidates and supporters await the outcome.
One of the candidates in the Yapei-Kusawgu contest is Mukaila Tourrick, whose supporters are following the counting and declaration process with interest.
The contest has generated particular interest among young people in the constituency as attention turns to who will emerge as the Youth MP.
However, Global Pulse GH has not independently verified the final vote tally or winner for Yapei-Kusawgu at the time of publication.
We will therefore not publish an unconfirmed result or declare any candidate the winner until the outcome is officially established.
Elections held across Ghana
The Yapei-Kusawgu contest forms part of a wider constituency-level Youth Model Parliament election exercise involving young candidates from different parts of Ghana.
The electronic voting infrastructure used for the exercise has separate constituency categories, including Constituencies Group One and Group Two, alongside other Youth Model Parliament election categories.
Results pages for individual constituencies have been created to display nominees and their vote totals. For instance, the Akuapem North constituency results page identifies the election as part of the Youth Model Parliament General Elections – Constituencies (Group One) and records multiple nominees and votes.
This indicates that the election is being processed on a constituency-by-constituency basis, with results expected to emerge as counting and verification are completed.
Attention turns to results declaration
With voting completed, candidates and their supporters are now waiting for the official declaration of results.
Information available to Global Pulse GH indicates that 9:00 PM has been given as the expected results-declaration time. However, we have not located a sufficiently authoritative public notice from the organisers independently confirming that exact nationwide declaration time.
For that reason, Global Pulse GH is treating 9:00 PM as the expected declaration window rather than a confirmed national timetable.
What happens after the elections?
Successful candidates will become Youth Members of Parliament under the Youth Model Parliament programme.
Unlike Ghana’s constitutional parliamentary elections, the YMP is a leadership-development simulation. Participants are expected to engage in parliamentary-style debates, policy discussions, motions and other activities designed to give young people practical exposure to governance.
The programme therefore provides an opportunity for young people to develop public-speaking, leadership, policy and parliamentary skills while representing their respective constituencies.
Yapei-Kusawgu result remains one to watch
For residents of Yapei-Kusawgu, the immediate question is whether Mukaila Tourrick will emerge as the constituency's Youth MP.
The answer will depend on the official vote count and declaration.
At publication time, no verified final Yapei-Kusawgu vote total or winner has been confirmed to Global Pulse GH.
The newsroom will continue monitoring the declaration process and will update this report once reliable results become available.
