Savannah NDC Mourns Passing of Council of State Member Tingawura Seidu Sampson Abudu

The Savannah Region is mourning the reported passing of Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu, the region's representative on the Council of State.

The announcement came from the Savannah Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which described his death as a painful loss to the party, the Savannah Region, the Bole Traditional Area and Ghana.

In a condolence message signed by Safo Emmanuel Sadari, Deputy Regional Secretary, the party paid tribute to Alhaji Abudu's long years of public and community service.

His death, according to the statement, marks the loss of a man who played different roles in public administration, politics, traditional leadership and community development.

A career built around service

Alhaji Abudu spent many years working in public service.

Between 2009 and 2013, he served as District Chief Executive for Bole District. He later served as Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Eastern Region from 2013 to 2017.

He also maintained links with the accounting profession and, according to the NDC statement, had served since 2005 as Chairman of the Educational Accountants Association for the Northern Region.

For people who knew him through these different stages of his career, his public life went well beyond politics.

Savannah's representative on the Council of State

In February 2025, Alhaji Abudu was elected to represent the Savannah Region on the 9th Council of State.

He secured 11 of the 14 votes cast in the regional election.

The position gave him another opportunity to contribute his experience to national governance and to represent the interests of the region at the constitutional advisory body.

A familiar figure within the NDC

His connection with the NDC also ran deep.

The party described him as a founding member of the NDC in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency and a committed party member.

Until his reported passing, he served as Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders in the Savannah Region.

That role placed him among the senior figures whose experience and advice were available to the party's younger leaders and members.

His traditional role

Alhaji Abudu's public identity was not confined to government and partisan politics.

In 2013, he was enskinned as the Tingawura of the Bole Traditional Area.

Through traditional leadership, he continued his involvement in matters affecting his community and the development of the area.

It was another chapter in a life that had already taken him through public administration, professional work and politics.

He also believed in community development

His interest in improving people's lives eventually led to the establishment of the Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu (ASSA) Foundation.

The community-focused foundation was created to support development initiatives and improve living conditions for people in the Savannah Region.

Even in 2026, he remained involved in community activities. In May, reports indicated that he had launched an anti-drug campaign and committed support to community development through the foundation.

A loss felt across different circles

Perhaps what makes the reported loss particularly significant is the number of communities and institutions with which Alhaji Abudu was associated.

He was a former District Chief Executive, a health insurance administrator, an NDC elder, a traditional leader, a Council of State member and a community development advocate.

Each of those roles gave him a different connection to the people of Savannah.

The NDC Regional Secretariat has extended condolences to his family, the Bolewura and the Bole Traditional Area, the Government of Ghana and the NDC fraternity across the region.

The party has also prayed for strength and comfort for his family, friends, colleagues and all those mourning him.

Savannah remembers an elder

For the Savannah Region, the passing of a public figure with such a long record of service is bound to be deeply felt.

His journey moved through several important parts of public life, but the common thread was service — to government, party, traditional authority and community.

As tributes begin to emerge, many will remember him not simply for the positions he held, but for the relationships and contributions built over years of public engagement.
