One Year On: Vice President Honours Late Alhaji Limuna

A year after the tragic death of Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has joined his family, religious and traditional leaders, friends and well-wishers to honour his memory.

The remembrance brought together loved ones and community leaders to reflect on the life, public service and values of the late statesman, whose death left many Ghanaians in shock and mourning.

Alhaji Limuna, who was serving as Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of Human Security, died on August 6, 2025, in the military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of eight people.

He had previously served Ghana in several senior positions, including as Northern Regional Minister, Upper East Regional Minister, Minister for Food and Agriculture and Minister of State in charge of Human Resources and Scholarships at the Presidency.

Vice President remembers Limuna

At the anniversary remembrance, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s warm greetings and continued sympathies to the bereaved family.

She also expressed solidarity with the family, stressing the importance of continuing to stand with them, support them and keep them in prayer.

The occasion provided an opportunity for family members, traditional authorities, religious leaders and friends to reflect on the late Alhaji Limuna’s contribution to public service and his commitment to community development.

His passing came only weeks after he assumed his new role at the National Security Secretariat, making the tragedy particularly painful for colleagues and those who had worked closely with him.

Remembering a life of service

Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna was widely remembered as a dedicated public servant, administrator and philanthropist.

Beyond his government responsibilities, he was known for his support for education, healthcare and community development. Through the Tamawuta Foundation, he supported educational opportunities, medical assistance and other interventions for people in need.

He was also a committed Muslim who supported the construction of mosques and assisted Muslims undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage.

His death was part of one of Ghana’s most painful national tragedies in recent years. The eight victims of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash were later honoured at a state funeral in Accra, where the Vice President paid tribute to their selflessness, sacrifice and commitment to national service.

One year later, the grief may have softened for some, but the memory of Alhaji Limuna remains deeply rooted among his family, colleagues, friends and the communities he served.

As loved ones continue to remember his life and legacy, prayers remain central to the commemoration.

May the Almighty, in His infinite mercy, continue to strengthen the family of Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna and grant his soul eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
