ACCRA, Ghana — President John Dramani Mahama has announced a temporary GHS2 reduction in the regulatory margin on diesel per litre as part of government measures aimed at easing pressure on households, businesses, and transport operators amid rising living costs.

The intervention, announced by the Presidency Communications Office on Monday, August 3, 2026, follows a Cabinet decision and is expected to take effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

The reduction will remain in place for one month, subject to further review by government based on developments in the fuel market.

According to the Presidency, the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to cushion Ghanaians from the impact of fuel price pressures and reduce the effect of rising operational costs across key sectors of the economy.
