DAMONGO, Ghana — The race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Savannah Regional Chairmanship has entered a new phase after incumbent Regional Chairman Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Professor Kalamonia, officially declared his intention to seek re-election.
In a statement dated July 14, 2026, Professor Kalamonia appealed to delegates across the Savannah Region to renew his mandate, unveiling an ambitious four-pillar agenda aimed at strengthening the party and positioning it for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Campaigning under the theme "One NPP, Total Victory in 2028," the incumbent says his next term will focus on uniting the party, improving grassroots service, empowering party structures, and delivering electoral success.
A Call for Unity Ahead of Crucial Elections
Professor Kalamonia described unity as the foundation of a strong political party, stressing that internal cohesion will be essential if the NPP is to regain momentum in the Savannah Region.
He pledged to lead an all-inclusive regional executive that embraces every segment of the party, including constituency executives, polling station officers, youth, women, the Nasara Wing, communicators, and party elders.
According to him, every member has a role to play in building a stronger NPP capable of competing effectively in future elections.
Leadership Rooted in Grassroots Service
Presenting his vision for another term, Professor Kalamonia maintained that leadership is measured by service rather than position.
He promised to remain actively engaged with party members through regular visits to communities, constituency activities, campaign events, and grassroots engagements across the region.
The incumbent also pledged to maintain an accessible and responsive regional party office that listens to the concerns of members and provides timely support.
Empowering the Party's Structures
Another major pillar of his campaign is strengthening the NPP's grassroots machinery.
Professor Kalamonia said he would continue investing in capacity-building programmes, logistics support, and welfare initiatives for Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives, Party Communicators, as well as the Women's Wing, Youth Wing, and Nasara Wing.
He believes stronger local structures will improve organisation and enhance the party's ability to mobilise supporters ahead of future elections.
Setting His Sights on 2028
Looking beyond the internal contest, the Savannah Regional Chairman said the ultimate objective is to prepare the NPP for a successful comeback in the 2028 general elections.
He acknowledged that the party suffered setbacks in the previous elections, including the loss of two parliamentary seats, but expressed confidence that those seats could be reclaimed through disciplined organisation, strategic planning, and effective grassroots mobilisation.
Professor Kalamonia also pledged to retain the Damongo parliamentary seat, expand the NPP's electoral presence across the Savannah Region, and help deliver overwhelming votes for the party's expected presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, achieving those goals will require data-driven campaigning, efficient resource mobilisation, and sustained engagement with party members at every level.
"Leadership is service and not status. I am not a chairman just by name but of the grassroots. Let us secure the future, let us deliver victory, and let us retain Professor Kalamonia as Savannah Regional NPP Chairman. Retain what works."
Contest Expected to Draw Attention
Professor Kalamonia's announcement officially sets the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched Savannah Regional Chairmanship contest as the NPP reorganises ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The outcome of the regional executive elections is expected to shape the party's direction, grassroots mobilisation efforts, and electoral strategy in the Savannah Region over the coming years.
With campaigns beginning to gather momentum, delegates will be weighing competing visions for the future of the party, making the regional contest one of the key political races to watch in the months ahead.
