Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has endorsed the 20-year prison sentence imposed on NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, describing the judgment as legally sound.
Reacting to the court's decision, Kpebu praised the presiding judge for what he called a bold and well-reasoned ruling.
"Without a doubt, Wontumi's sentence is a sound decision. I applaud the judge for her bold ruling. By every standard, it is a good judgment," he said.
Kpebu said the ruling demonstrates that the courts can hold influential individuals accountable under the law.
He also argued that the change in Ghana's political leadership allowed the judicial process to proceed without interference. According to him, Chairman Wontumi would not have faced the same level of accountability if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had remained in power.
His comments have triggered public discussion, with many viewing the case as a significant test of judicial independence and the principle that no one is above the law.
