GRIDCo Confirms National Power System Disturbance, Restoration Efforts Underway

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has confirmed that Ghana's National Interconnected Transmission System experienced a power system disturbance at approximately 3:11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, resulting in widespread interruptions in electricity supply.
In an official press statement issued on Wednesday, GRIDCo said the disturbance caused the simultaneous tripping of some generating plants across the national power system, leading to outages in several parts of the country.
GRIDCo Activates Restoration Procedures
According to the company, its established system restoration procedures were activated immediately after the incident.
GRIDCo stated that its engineers and system operators are working continuously in close collaboration with stakeholders across Ghana's power sector to restore electricity within the shortest possible time without compromising safety.
The company assured the public that every effort is being made to stabilize the national grid and return power to affected customers as quickly as possible.
Investigation Into the Cause Begins
GRIDCo also announced that a comprehensive technical investigation has commenced to determine the precise cause of the system disturbance.
The findings of the investigation are expected to help identify the source of the incident and inform measures aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future.
Public Apology
The company apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanked the public for their patience and understanding.
"We remain fully committed to restoring supply to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible and will provide further updates as more information becomes available," the statement said.
The power disturbance comes as Ghana continues efforts to strengthen the reliability and stability of its national electricity transmission network.
