DAMONGO, Savannah Region — A new milestone in educational development and student welfare is set to be achieved as the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund, in partnership with Damongo Senior High School (DASS), commissions a modern Guidance and Counselling Centre on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
The newly constructed facility, located at the school’s forecourt in Damongo, replaces the school’s former wooden counselling structure and is designed to provide students with a professional environment for psychosocial support, career guidance, academic counselling, and mentorship.
The project is expected to strengthen student support services and contribute to creating a more conducive learning environment at one of the Savannah Region’s leading second-cycle institutions.
New Centre to Transform Student Support Services
For years, guidance and counselling activities at Damongo Senior High School operated under difficult conditions due to inadequate infrastructure.
The new centre provides dedicated spaces for confidential counselling sessions, group engagements, career planning, mentorship programmes, and wellness activities aimed at supporting students’ academic and personal growth.
School authorities say the facility will improve the delivery of counselling services by allowing students to access professional support in a comfortable and secure setting.
The initiative highlights the importance of addressing not only classroom infrastructure but also the emotional, psychological, and career needs of students.
Traditional and Political Leaders to Grace Commissioning Ceremony
The commissioning ceremony will bring together traditional authorities, government officials, education stakeholders, development partners, alumni, parents, and community members.
The Guest of Honour for the event is His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and Founder of the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund.
The Special Guest of Honour will be Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, while the Headmaster of Damongo Senior High School, Mr. Dy-Yakah Ibrahim Salifu, will serve as host.
The ceremony will also feature a mini-durbar to celebrate the collaboration between traditional leadership, educational authorities, and development partners in promoting education within the Savannah Region.
Bii-Kunuto Education Fund’s Educational Interventions
Established by His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund focuses on reducing barriers to quality education through scholarships, infrastructure support, and student welfare initiatives.
The Fund has supported brilliant but financially disadvantaged students pursuing higher education in universities, nursing colleges, medical institutions, and other professional programmes.
It has also supported medical scholars studying abroad, including students pursuing medical education in China.
Beyond financial assistance, the Fund has championed the preservation of Gonja cultural identity through advocacy for trained Gonja language teachers in schools.
The initiative has also supported female students through sanitation interventions, including sanitary pad distribution and other welfare programmes aimed at improving school attendance and retention.

The completion of the Guidance and Counselling Centre at Damongo Senior High School represents another significant investment in the future of students in the Savannah Region.
