Education Minister and Member of Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has sparked political debate after defending the government's handling of Ghana's long-standing flooding problem.
Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, Haruna Iddrisu argued that it is unrealistic to expect the current government to resolve a challenge that has persisted for many years.
"Give Us Time"
Responding to criticism from the opposition, he said:
"If you [NPP] didn't solve the flood situation in eight years, don't expect us [NDC] to solve it in two years."
According to the minister, addressing Ghana's flood crisis requires major investments in drainage systems, urban planning, and other critical infrastructure. He stressed that such long-term challenges cannot be solved within a short period.
The Political Debate
His remarks have added to the ongoing political debate over responsibility for the country's recurring floods. While the opposition continues to criticize the government's pace of action, the ruling party maintains that it inherited significant infrastructure challenges that will take time and substantial resources to address.
Haruna Iddrisu's comments highlight the broader argument that lasting solutions to Ghana's flooding problem require sustained planning, funding, and execution rather than quick fixes.
Do you agree with Haruna Iddrisu's view that solving Ghana's flood crisis will take more time, or should the government be able to deliver faster results? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
