Adomako Baafi Accuses Mahama, NDC of Targeting Wontumi Over Regional Bias

ACCRA, Ghana — New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and former National Communications Director, Yaw Adomako Baafi, has accused former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of unfairly targeting Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, alleging political and regional bias.

Speaking in a statement issued on July 24, 2026, Adomako Baafi claimed that recent legal actions involving Chairman Wontumi reflect what he described as selective justice against business figures from the Ashanti Region.

Adomako Baafi Alleges Double Standards

According to the former NPP Communications Director, businesses linked to political allies of the NDC receive protection while enterprises owned by perceived political opponents face intensified scrutiny.

"It is sad that you protect your relative's business but go after Wontumi because he is from Asante. The judge is from the Volta Region. John Mahama and the NDC are witches who hate other people's progress. If it were left to them, they would be the only people who should do well in life," Adomako Baafi said.

His comments have generated debate, particularly because they referenced the regional background of the presiding judge while questioning the fairness of the legal process involving Chairman Wontumi.

Wontumi's Legal Challenges Continue

The remarks come amid ongoing legal and political controversies surrounding Chairman Wontumi, who serves as the NPP's Ashanti Regional Chairman and has interests in the mining and media sectors.

His legal challenges have attracted nationwide attention, especially against the backdrop of Ghana's intensified efforts to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. Authorities have maintained that enforcement actions are intended to uphold the law regardless of political affiliation.
